I was watching this guy I’d never seen or heard of before, Jim Cramer, on a show called Mad Money. I guess what caught my attention was the topic of pornography. He made the announcement that Motorola (MOT) and Broadcom (BRCM) would be good stocks as porn makes its debut onto cell phones. Cell phone providers are adopting a rating system (like movies and video games) for the maturity level of content, and this is a good indicator of things to come. He expects consumers to be drawn to porn on the cell phone in the same way we are in other media. More porn videos are made than any others. The number one reason for upgrading to broadband connections is for access to porn. Searches contain sex related subjects more than any other topic. It’s a huge industry. He explained his reasoning for picking Broadcom, but my question is why did he choose Motorola compared to Sony, Samsung [with the first hard drive based cell phone], LG, Kyocera, Nokia, or any other of the manufacturers? What about the makers of the hard drive to store the content? Wouldn’t Hitachi, Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor, etc, benefit from the need for storage space? How about flash memory makers? It seems so much money comes directly from advertising, why not tap into that vein?
